A Short Description and Photographic Tour of Cantobre in The Aveyron

Sitting on top of a finger of rock about 100 m above the confluence of the Dourbie and Trèvezel valleys, Cantobre is a small mediaeval village of 26 houses. As you can see from the photos below, Cantobre is a step back in time with its narrow streets and winding paths that snake between the old stone houses. The narrowest street (Rue Principale) passes in front of our Egyptian gîte, on the south side of our house, and runs to the western end of the village. On the north-east side of our house, Rue de l’Église winds its short way up the steep climb from the fountain to the entrance of our Griffon gîte. Rue de l’Église continues on up to the top of the village and the 12^th century church. Descent from the church is by steep steps down the east side of the village back down to the fountain and the entrance to the village.

Parking

As you can tell from this description, there is no room for parking in the village which makes it quieter and safer for children to play. Parking facilities are just outside the village entrance, about 100 m to 200 m from the gîtes. When you arrive we will help you with your bags and shopping, either by hand or (if you’ve brought the kitchen sink with you) with our small car that can better navigate Cantobre’s streets.
